The Neptune's Bounty level of Bioshock will help round out your game strategy by introducing you to using the camera to do research in order to get various bonuses including increased enemy damage and getting new plasmids. You'll also be introduced to using Gene Banks, where you can decide which plasmids are enabled for your character, and Power to the People machines which you can use to upgrade your weapons. You'll pick up one new weapon: the grenade launcher.
Some general notes on this level:
- The Big Daddies found on this level are different than the one you fought in the Medical Pavilion. These ones are called Rosies and they will attack you by shooting you with a rivet gun and by throwing proximity mines at you. Here's a cool way to kill the first Big Daddy you find in the Lower Wharf:
- Next to the Gene Bank in the Lower Wharf (opposite the Gatherer's Garden) there are four explosive objects that are bound to get wasted during the mayhem that ensues when you enter this area and starting fighting the splicers and dealing with the RPG turret. It's best to use Telekinesis to immediately move them out of the way to some 'safe' place. Then these can later be used to set a trap for a Big Daddy.
- The camera you have to retrieve for Peach Wilkins is in the WharfMaster area in a room in the back which you access by using a crawlspace. A Spider Splicer is also there which you can take a photo of to complete part 1 of Peach Wilkin's Spider Splicer photo goal. Upon returning from the camera room, the crawlspace becomes blocked by an explosion and you have to descend through a hole blown through the wall next the fallen Gatherer's Garden. After descending back into the Upper Wharf area, you'll find yourself on the other side of a locked gate you encountered earlier. This gate will remain locked until you complete the Spider Splicer photo goal. A second Spider Splicer to photograph can be found in Jet Postal. A third Spider Splicer can be found as soon as you open the sliding door leading to the Fighting Mcdonaughs (sp?) bar (snap the photo as soon as the door opens before he jumps up and away).
- The first Power to the People machine in Freezer Bottom Floor (Best thing to upgrade first is Shotgun Rate of Fire. This coupled with Electric Buck will make it a lot easier to take down all the Big Daddies from here on in.)
- When you recover your weapons on your way down to the Freezer Bottom Floor, you don't get everything back that you had before but rather you just get all your weapons back and a smattering of the default ammo for each (I know, what a rip...)
How to kill Peach Wilkins and Complete the Freezer Area
I actually played Bioshock through twice —once on medium and once on hard— before I realized that the Freezer area in Neptune's Bounty is not some kind of survive-this-entire-area-without-your-weapons kind of deal. The only part you really have to do without your weapons is kill Peach Wilkins. After he's dead, Atlas will come on with another radio message about the submarine bay where his family is hiding following which you can head straight for the stairs leading down to the Freezer Bottom Floor. In the stairwell, you'll find a Pneumatic Tube where you can retrieve all the weapons you had to give up when you entered the Freezer area. Then you can go downstairs and use the Power to the People machine to upgrade one of your weapons (I strongly recommend that you use this PTTP machine to apply the Shotgun Rate of Fire upgrade). Then you can return upstairs and complete this area without being deprived of your weapons.
Here's a video I made of how to deal with Peach Wilkins:
Basically you'll be doing the following:
- Use Incinerate to melt the oil barrels embedded in ice next to the pillar.
- Run to the security camera on the right side and hack it.
- Return to the entrance and move off to the left a little bit. Peach Wilkins normally appears a little ways down the passage to the left of the vending machine.
- As soon as the freezer fog disappears, dodge the first bomb Peach Wilkins throws at you and then use Telekinesis to quickly throw the three oil barrels at him. This should be enough to kill him.
- When Atlas comes on with the radio message about the submarine bay, you'll know Peach Wilkins is dead. Forget about all the other splicers (if you can) and race to the stairs at the back leading down to the Freezer Bottom Floor. Once you reached the Pneumatic Tube in the stairwell and retrieved all your weapons, you're home free.
Can I keep my weapons or do I have to get rid of them...?
I did not get my camera back when I got my other weapons back. I thought nothing of this till I got to the part where I have to photograph Fitzpatrick. Is there any way I can get another camera?
