The Medical Pavilion level in the PC game Bioshock will advance your gameplay experience by introducing you to your first Big Daddy and the whole idea of acquiring Adam from a Little Sister and using it in a Gatherer's Garden to buy plasmids. You'll pick up two more weapons: the machine gun and the shotgun. You'll also pick up two free active plasmids: Incinerate and Telekinesis. Both of these will be immensely useful throughout the entire game.
Some general notes on strategy for this level:
- After hacking the first security bot blocking the doorway, you enter into the area leading to Neptune's Bounty emergency access. It's not necessary to kill the first splicer kneeling down over a corpse there or the second one on the stairs. Just run right past them and up the stairs. These two splicers will start fighting each other and eventually your security bot will kill them both.
- Use the security bot for all its worth. Don't waste any bullets unless you absolutely have to. Instead just zap all the splicers with the Electro Bolt. It will protect your security bot and keep it from taking damage while it shoots them down. You can occasionally help out your security bot by smacking splicers with the wrench.
- Another good technique to use is to zap a splicer with the Electro Bolt and then equip your pistol, run up to the splicer and finish him/her off with a single shot directly to the head. (All hits to the head deal more damage, even with the wrench.) This is especially useful for Leadhead Splicers (ones that carry guns).
Eternal Flame (How to Get the Incinerate plasmid)
You'll need to go into Eternal Flame crematorium to get the Incinerate plasmid without which you cannot melt all the doorways blocked with ice. Equip your machine gun and then switch to plasmids and equip Electro Bolt. Then carefully approach the entrance way to the Eternal Flame. Just go close enough to trigger the sequence where the splicer at the door gets blown up. Then retreat, wait for the explosion then approach the doorway quickly to find a Nitro Splicer (bomb toting) blocking the door. Zap him with the Electro Bolt, quickly switch to your machine gun, aim at his head and finish him off. If he manages to escape and beats a retreat into the Eternal Flame crematorium, make sure he doesn't sucker you all the way in to the area where there is a security camera as he'll probably tie you up fighting him long enough for the security camera to sound the alarm. Instead, just let him get away and go deal with the security camera first (zap-and-hack it). Then continue.
The Incinerate plasmid is found in the back of the Eternal Flame crematorium on the second floor (you'll have to crouch to get into the room where it's located in). After picking up the Incinerate plasmid, you'll trigger a sequence where some splicers will come in a rage banging on the window to the room you're in. Instead of going out and fighting them, simply blast the oil spill trail leading into the room you're in with your newly equipped Incinerate plasmid. This will set the oil spill on fire and the fire will spread all the way out to where the splicers are standing and will burn them to death.
You can now use the Incinerate plasmid to melt all the ice-blocked doorways in the Medical Pavilion including the one leading to the Dental Services area downstairs. You'll need to access this area to retrieve the Telekinesis plasmid in the Dandy Dental office.
Where to find Chompers Dental Office Key
You can actually see the Chompers Dental Office key by looking through the broken window on the left of the door to the office. It's hanging on the wall underneath a sign marked 'Key Return'. Use the Telekinesis plasmid to pull the key towards you and just press the 'Hack' key on your keyboard to drop the key in front of you. Then you can pick it up and use it.
How to Kill Dr. Steinman
Here's a super easy way to kill Dr. Steinman:
After entering his office and going through the whole sequence where he starts ranting and raving "That one, too fat! This one, too tall! This one, too symmetrical!..." etc, go into the back where he is and find a gas cylinder. Use Telekinesis to pick it up and then throw it at Dr. Steinman causing it to explode. This will set Dr. Steinman on fire. He'll then go into the water to try to put the fire out. Follow him to the water (but not into it) equip Electro Bolt and zap the water. This should finish him off no problem on Medium difficulty (also works on hard but you'll have to zap the water two or three times).
Alternate method: Zap him with Electro Bolt and then equip the shotgun, run up, aim carefully for the head and shoot. Rinse and repeat until he's dead.
